Woolerina, Made In Australia

Woolerina, Made In Australia

At Woolerina we are passionate about being Australian Made!

When Woolerina started in 2005 our entire supply chain was Australian – raw wool was sent directly off-farm to Wagga for processing and then sent on to Albury for spinning into yarn. The yarn then headed further south to Melbourne for knitting, back to Ballarat for dying and then up to Sydney for cutting and sewing! Once these processes were completed, finished garments were warehoused at our office at Forbes, NSW.

Sadly the early stage processing is no longer available to us in Australia – raw wool must now be sent from Australia to China where it is processed and spun into yarn. As part of our commitment to doing as much as we possibly can in Australia, we choose to have the yarn returned to us as early as possible to re-commence production in Australia – our fabrics are now knitted and dyed in Melbourne before be collected by Warwick and returned to Forbes where all our garments are cut and sewn in-house at our work rooms.

Our garments are then stored in our warehouse ready to be despatched to their new owner. Every order is sent with a hand written note as it is with great honour that we are able to make garments with love to be loved, in our home town of Forbes.

We are lucky to have a very dedicated team of makers and administrative staff who are all from our local community. We love being able to support our local community in any way possible and being able to provide employment for locals makes us proud, as it has a real flow on effect for our local area. There is a real sense of pride and ownership amongst our team, they love being able to be part of the Australian fashion industry while still being based in their home town, in regional NSW.

Manufacturing in Australia does occasionally present us with challenges and it is not always the cheapest route however, being Australian Made is our main priority and the advantages of having a close handle on our manufacturing has been extremely beneficial to our business. Operating in this way enables us to ensure our team are paid in accordance with Australian workplace laws and have a safe working environment. We are very proud of the great camaraderie amongst our team. We always enjoy celebrating birthdays and other milestones together, usually with a delicious cake baked by one of the girls and a cuppa!

Woolerina has been proud to carry the Australian Made & Owned logo since 2010 and we're pleased to celebrate Australian Made Week 2021!
